Review of Man on the Moon (1999) by Jordan K — 13 Dec 2013
Man on the Moon is a movie that I felt unsure of when I got to the end. It captured Kaufman's life incredibly well, but it seemed out of place, it left out some things. I did enjoy it, though, but it had some minor flaws.
Man on the Moon is a biopic of wacky comedian Andy Kaufman, as played by Jim Carrey. It shows his odd but sensible humor styles like his alter ego Tony Clifton or his character on the hit sitcom Taxi, Latka Graves. Kaufman is surprisingly more disappointed with his life and career than pleased, something many biopics don't really grasp, and that's a point for originality right there.
This movie was a good one and definitely entertained me, but Andy was kind of a hard character to like (at least portrayed as). I think some things were left out, but that's normal in most biopics, especially one based off of an R.E.M. song. Man on the Moon fascinated me and I'd suggest you give it a try, despite its off the wall style of humor and constantly sticking plotline.
