Review of Man on Fire (1987) by Mike D — 29 Nov 2010
While not his best effort, 'Man on Fire' shows Denzel Washington in his element as protector-in-chief while maintaining an interesting storyline. The film is basically divided into two different parts, as the first half is fairly slow and depicts an unfriendly Washington playing bodyguard to Dakota Fanning, while the latter half finds him on a manhunt for the kidnapped Fanning, leaving a trail of Mexican baddies along the way.
The Mexican setting is definitely a change from the usual LA/NYC scene, which makes the story more interesting. One of the major drawbacks to the film is the sloppy, jolty camera transitions that Director Tony Scott seems to like, but this does not take away from too much of the overall result.
'Man on Fire' is a fast and furious action flick that is worth a shot, but probably not many more than one.
