Review of Man on Fire (1987) by Berni E — 23 Sep 2012
Man on Fire isn't perfect, but it at least puts in the effort to try and be. It's acting is great from badass Denzel Washington and cutie Dakota Fanning, and their chemistry is great. It also creates a dark atmosphere, appropriate for a kidnapping thriller film. But the best part is that it creates characters that you can genuinely care about, and the script supports it well enough. It sets up as a touching drama and turns into a thriller very well.
However, I just have to say that there should have been more action than there was, and with a name like Man on Fire its what you'd expect. The film also had moments of confusion which were a little too common at climactic moments and it was overly long at parts. Still, Man on Fire is a good addition to Tony Scott and Denzel Washington's career.
