Review of Man of the Year (2006) by Justin N — 22 Apr 2009

Oh, this is one of those films with so much potential, that just couldn't find its footing. First off, it's something of a bipolar film, starting out as a fairly light-hearted, goofy romp through the world of show business and politics and shows what it might look like if an entertainer in the vein of Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert ran for president and won.

Then, around halfway through, it plunges off the deep end into semi-serious, conspiracy thriller that seems to have something critical to say about the way elections and campaigns are run in our country, but its point escaped me.

The first half was moderately entertaining, and by the end I was invested enough in the characters to see how things worked out and for that I'm giving it a lackluster two stars, though given its subject matter, I was a expecting a great deal more.
