Review of Man of Tai Chi (2013) by David C — 10 Dec 2013

The camera-work and cinematography of this movie is absolutely excellent! Other movies have too many edits, too many camera tricks to make the fighting look faster. This movie succeeds in making everything that you see poignant, including Beijing's polluted skies.

I had no idea before I watched this movie, but quickly got the impression that 'Man of Tai Chi' is meant to imply some kind of man of peace. Strangely, I wanted to believe that Tai Chi is a real fighting style, only because it looks incredibly elegant when compared to the brutish nature of the other styles on display in this movie.

Reeves' villain is deliberately over acted, but works to build up tension in this old-fashioned type of movie.
