Review of Man of Steel (2013) by Garrett S — 22 Feb 2016
The Man of Steel is back and more action packed than ever before. This movie takes a page out of Batman's book and is rebooted with a more realistic and gritty tone. Henry Cavill is a fine Superman, Lois Lane is once again a miscast though.
Don't get me wrong, Amy Adams is great but she just was not the right choice for the Pulitzer prize winning reporter that we all know and love, Michael Shannon is very good as General Zod (i was kinda hoping for a "kneel before Zod" line) and is very different than Terrance Stamp.
The action is very cool but can get a little repetitive, not to mention that it very much resembles The Matrix Revolutions. Metropolis could have been spared a bit, some of the extensive damage is excessive and flat out brutal when you think about it.
I like the way they made Lois Lane know Superman's identity, it is a nice change of pace from the previous installments. While this film is very divisive, and for good reason, I enjoy Man of Steel and am obviously very excited for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
3.8/5.
