Review of Man of Steel (2013) by Bryan S — 27 Mar 2016
Finally!!! something that puts the dreadful past installments to shame. director Zack snyder of 300 and watchmen fame give us his take on the origin story of the man of steel. Zack Snyder has always been praised for his stunning visuels in his movies and damn, man of steel is most stunny film yet. from, lighting, sound, and backdrop you can't help but feel immersed in the setting.
The film begins with jor- el played by Russell Crowe is forced to defend the dying planet krypton from the evil general zod ( played by Michael Shannon). Russell Crowe kills it as jor-el father of superman and is surprisingly given a fair amount of screen time. unfortunately Michael Shannon isn't as robust. while menacing at times he just didnt work for me, I could buy some of his lines. He is nowhere near bad in the film, I just felt he could do better.
Now to get to Henry cavills performance as the man of steel, the kid gets a thumbs up. many bitch being overyly serious in his role, I didn't find that botherson at all and I see him doing great in other future superman installments. the amy adams daily planet story arch felt rushed to me, the could saved that for the sequel. Zack.
Snyder can really put together some badass fights and this time around he trades slo mo for some high flying over the top action, and prevails awesomely.
If your a superman fan, go see this.
If your not a superman fan, go see it.
Its not perfect and has many flaws, but man of steel gives us that summer blockbuster adrenaline filled entertainment we all crave.
It gets 4 stars out of 5.
