Review of Man Down (2016) by Matthew A — 19 Jan 2018
Shia LaBeouf leads a cast of great performances in a movie that is failed by its storytelling and editing. Man Down deals with one of the more serious issues that America faces today- PTSD and Veteran suicide. It is told through Four Storylines- Before deployment, deployment, a post mission interview with the always fun to see Gary Oldman, and a post apocalyptic world where Shia is trying to find his son.
I almost want to spoil the twist, because I think audiences would enjoy this film more if we were on the journey instead of the filmmaker attempting to make a name for himself instead of facing the issue head on.
I wish, in a quick Google search, I saw that some of the profits for this film was going toward addressing the Veteran suicide/PTSD issue, but since not- I have to mark it down to a two out of five for cast performances. If you are a fan of any of these people- you will get some enjoyment out of this film. But, it fails to properly tell a story and convey the message.
