Review of Man Bites Dog (1992) by Yannick F — 05 Jan 2008
A viciously dark comedy and brutal satire on media violence, Man Bites Dog works on more than one level. It can be commenting on our growing obsession with violence and gore, and how its becoming more widely acceptable in mainstream than ever before.
Not only that but Man Bites Dog seems to predict reality television before it even really got started. Man Bites Dog suggests the blurred line between the people making the documentary and it's subject, at what point are these people just as bad as this man himself? Also it suggests that possibly this is his reaction to being filmed, maybe it's impossible to film a subject like this without them performing for the camera in some way, in this case, killing.
