Review of Man Bites Dog (1992) by Mjs M — 22 May 2008
This infamous mockumentary was made by three film students in Belgium during the early 90s. The film is clearly meant to shock as it contains scenes of very strong violence juxtaposed with satirical comedy.
The main character, a serial killer, is very well acted by Benoit Poelvoorde. The mockumentary shoestring style is also very well pulled off, but there is no doubt that this is the work of students rather than professional filmmakers.
Also the movie is clearly way too long, this would have been awesome as a 50 minute short, but it completely runs out of steam in the third act. Still this is a brave film and for a student film it?s quite strong.
