Review of Man at the Top (1973) by Keith T — 06 May 2013
Kenneth Haigh's Joe Lampton was one of the1970s great anti-heroes. This cinema version has higher production values and a bigger budget, but it still gives the impression of just being two standard TV episodes stitched together, with a bit more added sex and nudity than would have been allowed on 70s ITV.
However, there are some brilliant period pieces within it, especially the delight with which the two female hitch-hikers he picks up in his Roller take in the(then) novelty of making a phone call FROM A CAR!
