Review of Man About Town (2006) by Maja K — 11 Aug 2008
I found this movie to be a little too boring. It had the tools that made it sound good such as the cast and concepts of wanting more in life even when it can seem you have everything where as at the same time the thought of losing everything.
Affleck plays a talent agent who's got bundles of money, the shiny car and the beautiful wife. He takes up a journal class where we find out that not is all what it seems to be on the surface of this perfect life.
Affleck does deliver a good performance as the lead which makes the film watchable. Also have to mention Cleese's funny performance as the class lecturer, the way he just randomly wrote on the chalkboard to make some use of it made me laugh.
To me though, I felt it was pretty slow that can easily lose your attention. The only element that saves it from being a one star was the shot techniques and transistions such as the split-screen showing past and present or how when Affleck's character went over to the window the camera zooms out and moves to his next location.
I guess one of those movies you could have in the background.
