Review of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018) by Becca K — 31 Jul 2018

Meryl Streep FTW! The main reason my rating for this movie is so high is for the ten minutes that Meryl graces the screen (which you would expect more considering Meryl's central placement in all of the advertisements).

The writers of this movie obviously didn't watch the first one as apparently the story of Donna's romance which she wrote in her diary did not happen the way she wrote them. There's no clear connection of who is having the flashbacks other than Sophie's dealing with similar but not really similar things that her mom dealt with.

The other saving grace of the film is the constant presence of Christine Baranski & Julie Walters. They are brilliant and having so much fun that it almost makes you forget that the majority of the songs are B-Sides and boring.

I did relax and tried to enjoy it for what it is, but I also cannot believe that people can overlook the reasons we loved the first one. I'm going back and watching the original.
