Review of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018) by Cece W — 24 Jul 2018
I loved the first movie and I was so excited to see this one. The unnecessary death of Donna brought the entire mood of the movie down. People love Mamma Mia because it's lighthearted and fun, but this just felt heavy.
One of the only upbeat scenes was Dancing Queen, but it was almost a copy of the last film's version, so what's the point? Cher's addition didn't add anything to the movie aside from one good song that I could've done without if it meant not having to sit through the scenes with her that overall felt pointless.
The only scenes I enjoyed were the flashbacks. I wish they had made the entire movie a prequel, so the film could have more of a focus and direction-there was barely a plot and the transitions didn't flow well.
I imagine the only reason they didn't do that was to cash in on the nostalgia of seeing our favorite characters again. Overall, disappointing.
