Review of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018) by Sky S — 26 Jul 2018
As someone who absolutely loved the 1st movie this was a massive disappointment. As much as I tried to enjoy the film, I just couldn't due to the emptiness left by a missing vital character, which caused the film to be less cheery.
The cast chosen to play the younger counterparts of the 3 fathers were stale and lacked the charisma of the originals. Continuity was also done poorly in this film, the stories & descriptions of the 3 fathers from the 1st film being completely discarded.
For example, Harry was far from "Harry Headbanger" as he was previously described. The order in which Donna met the 3 of them was also inaccurate. Not to mention, the best ABBA songs were already used in the 1st film, leaving behind mostly bland songs in this film that the writers awkwardly tried to fit in.
The only positive things were Lily James's take on younger Donna and seeing the old cast back in action.
