Review of Mame (1974) by Andy N — 22 Jan 2008
I don't know why it took so long for this movie to make it to DVD, but it's long overdue! I though Lucille ball was great as the irrestible Grand Dame Auntie Mame. I thought Lucy did a hell of a job potraying Mame in this lavish 1974 production.
As we all know Lucy, was not the best singer in the world but she tried her best and I respect her for that, sheer determination. When Mame opened Easter 1974, it was attacked by the critics and panned, I personally belive that the reason why Mame was panned so bad is because critics had favored Angela Lansbury's performance on Broadway 1966, Dont get me wrong I love Angela Lansbury, but I will always Love Lucy for her talented legacy !!!!!!! So pick up a copy of mame and give it a second chance !!!!!!
