Review of Mama's Boy (2013) by Anthony C — 05 Feb 2009
A lot of wasted potential. I for one found the main plot to be boring in its execution, but the scenes with Heder and Faris together were extremely cute. I wish the movie was more so about them. It's an interesting idea for a movie with lots of story potential, but it missed the opportunity in tone to capitalize on the real-life drama that happens in these situations.
It alludes to the reality of these situations on a number of occasions, but ultimately plays the whole thing for a few cheap laughs. I know all three of the leads are much much cooler than they are in this movie.
Daniels, Keaton and Heder are all three gifted performers. Heder should consider doing more low-key stuff, I think he would be more funny that way. Anna Faris was surprisingly good though.
