Review of Mama (2013) by Margarita S — 15 Aug 2014
Where do I begin? It took 30 minutes before anything really creepy happens. This movie meets the bare minimum for creep factor required for the genre. There are numerous, "Say what?!" moments.
For example, the father's death is never questioned or addressed by the twin brother. The pitted cherries as the only food consumed by two young girls for over a year. Really? The deliberate use of a rocker mom to try to defy "mama" stereotypes? Ugh.
It also struggled with the over use of traditional horror devices such as the dark closet and children drawing pictures on walls. If Del Torro fastens his name to a project, even as producer, I expect way better!!!
