Unique visual style and high tension almost start to finish make this film stand apart from similar horror/suspense movies. Although I cannot recall ever feeling a twist revealed or anything shocking in terms of the story.
I recall reading some reviews hinting at a "twist" but I would not refer to any aspect of this story as shocking or revealing. After all, it's named "MAMA" and there's an evil spirit lurking around the children.
Hmmm....
