Review of Mama (2013) by Karen D — 22 Sep 2013
Thought this movie was going to be a horrific tale about two girls caught up in an odyssey of supernatural occurrences. Thankfully not the case but regrettably the alternative was a lot more horrific. A slow meandering plot which was painful to endure and which lacked linear cohesion, logic or reason.
My humanity soon became challenged when forgetting I should actually care for the two feral girls that I had once been given regard within the opening scenes. What's scarier, Mama or the farther that put a gun to the daughters head.
Where originally I considered Mama did us all a good turn by killing him before he pulled the trigger, by the end of the movie I wondered if the farther was the wisest of a very dim bunch. It was a struggle to find any empathy with any of the characters and soon I found myself wishing their demise.
Not recommended even for those who enjoyed Pans Labyrinth and The Orphanage.
