Review of Malum (2023) by Jluis_001 — 18 Jun 2023
It only gets really exciting in the last 20 minutes and that's not generally a good thing.
Malum's resources are more than intriguing but its development is flawed. It's too much back and forth in the same place, searching for clues and answers in so many dark corridors that it never really explodes as it should. To make the atmosphere work and to make it believable you need more than a confused and terrified protagonist in her situation, you also need that same atmosphere to capture you as a viewer and as far as I'm concerned Malum doesn't do that.
I wanted answers yes, but whatever happened to the heroine stopped mattering to me halfway through the film. She's just the vehicle that will take you down the road of the rest of the story, but she's not a character you really care about, and her conclusion is the most telling proof of that.
Everything was left halfway.
