Review of Mallrats (1995) by Brian C — 02 Jun 2012
A series of hilarious scenes, quotes, and ideas that never add up to a cohesive, satisfying whole. What makes the movie transcend its numerous flaws is Jason Lee. His role as Brodie is one of the funniest performances I've ever seen in a comedy, and it's worth watching the movie for alone.
Mallrats is as juvenile as it is witty. It's as cheesy as it is cool. And it's as hilarious as it is pointless. While far from Kevin Smith's best, it's probably his most accessible; if you're a fan who wants to convert a new fan, Mallrats is the perfect place to start.
