Review of Mallrats (1995) by Gavyn M — 14 Oct 2012
Mallrats is a mess, created in post-production, abandoning its plot on the cutting room floor. However, it still has some genuinely great, funny moments. Following Clerks, shot on a micro budget, it's only natural to broaden the themes, scope and budget of its predecessor.
This is where it fails. When it hits, it is largely due to Jason Lee's ascerbic loser, Brodie, who is a kind of continuation of Jeff Anderson's character in Clerks. These moments are solid gold and it's a shame they're peppered among a lot of immature visual gags.
Overall good, but it seemed so much funnier when I still did drugs.
