The sophomore curse was clearly avoided by this movie, regardless of the negative adjectives hurled at it. This film has everything a cult movie needs; comic book references,Star Wars references, a stylized reproduction of 90's consumer culture, and a liberal helping of dirty jokes and scenarios.
Beneath the surface gags and polished studio sheen (well, polished as compared to Clerks at least), there is real emotion. All in all, a brilliant work of Postmodern kitsch-Romanticism.
