Review of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019) by Haakon — 26 Oct 2019
After having watched the trailer, I was in no hurry to watch the second movie of this series. I did enjoy the first movie, but the trailer just did not look all that interesting. Evil queen tries to steal Beastie from Maleficent, she goes postal and destroys the kingdom. In actuality, what I got was far more than I expected. Maleficent 2 is a story with interesting characters and dynamics which really having you investing emotion into them. The climax of the conflict was amazing, far better than I could have hoped for. Living in an American culture where sniveling reprobates think they have power when they are placated with safe spaces to coddle their fragile emotions, I enjoyed a movie which mirrors reality. Maleficent has the power to wipe the evil queen and all human kind in the neighboring civilization from the face of the Earth, yet her humanity allows them to continue existing. True power is having the ability and reason to destroy utterly and choosing not to do so. I felt like the ending was the best it could have been. Between the dichotomy within the factions of the dark Faye to the conflict within the human ranks to the uncertainty of how severe Maleficent’s wrath would express itself, I found myself pondering the outcome from all the angles because the story was interesting and well crafted.
All in all, this movie was superior to the first especially if you can suspend disbelief and invest your emotions into thinking of the conflict from all sides. I would highly recommend watching this movie if you watched the first.
