Review of Maleficent (2014) by Deena Sharon C — 06 Dec 2014
I am rather distracted by the visually stunning and compelling quality of this film. There is beautiful scenery, clear and high resolution visuals, cool computer generated "magic" graphics, costumes that go beyond the original Disney design.
Still, the storyline is told mainly through narration. With all of the other elements in place, had the story had better dialogue, it would not need to rely on narration to develop the storyline. Angelina Jolie was particularly stunning as Maleficent and was born to play the role.
Her voice, facial expressions, vulnerability crossed with strength, maliciousness crossed with genuine love, and her omnipotence over the Moors and Briar Rose were remarkable. With a more developed dialogue, the film would have been improved and the content would match the amazing visuals.
