Professional movie critics are some jaded people. Nothing can get a rise out of them.
After reading the bad reviews I'm not sure what people are looking for. This was a wonderful movie, my two kids (9 and 10) loved it, and so did my wife and I. It was cute, and with just one minor change and the addition of a backstory the character of Maleficent is completely transformed from a villain to a hero.
There were several scenes that were genuinely moving - Maleficent, crying for her wings; or when Jolie using just her eyes shows conflicting emotions as Maleficent struggles to maintain her hatred for the charming and innocent Aurora; or the end, when she apologizes for cursing her.
