Review of Maleficent (2014) by Heather S — 31 Dec 2014
This film may be supremely watchable, but it isn't GOOD. The visuals are breathtaking, Jolie is magical in the titular role, and the story certainly isn't boring. Still, the screenplay reads like a mish-mash of decent ideas that were placed in random order on a timeline with contrived plot fluff in-between them.
Maleficent, the main character, boasts two more dimensions than any character in the film--which doesn't say much, because every other character has approximately zero dimension. When I saw this, I expected nothing terribly revolutionary, but I expected a cohesive storyline.
The movie did not deliver. Still a watchable film, one I'm sure will live on tucked away in a deeply hidden corner of cult heaven.
