Review of Maleficent (2014) by Amber K — 05 Jan 2015
Maleficent is a poorly constructed gritty re-telling of the classic; Sleeping Beauty. Attempting to bring sympathy and plight to the character Maleficent, the director has not only taken away her one most infallible and impressive trait; unmotivated pure evil, he has attempted to make Maleficent a victim of circumstance.
Stromberg has taken away everything loved of the characters, and spun new traits, and imbecilic behavior. Combine this with a story that holds inconsistencies and annoying nuances, as well as flat-board acting by the talent-less like Jolie and her merry band of un-namables, this is a forgettable show.
With little to be enjoyed, visually, intellectually, or emotionally, it is a wonder how these films accrue popularity or funds.
