I'm not really a fan of rewriting characters to give them more complex back stories and make them more balanced individuals. Especially, when in doing so they transfer the one-dimensional aspects to someone else and create the same problem.
I also hate using the word "untold" when they mean "retold". Maleficent's transformation to darkness was unbelievable despite the tragedy of events.
