A refreshing and thoroughly self-conscious deconstruction of not only the original "sleeping beauty", but also the fantasy-princess sub-genre as a whole. For that, it's one of the few films in recent years to actually deserve to be called a "re-imagining" rather than a remake.
And if it is viewed through this lens, it will not disappoint.
