Review of Maleficent (2014) by David J — 07 Sep 2015
Maleficient is a movie of polarizing highs and lows. Angelina Jolie was the most ideal star to fit the leading role, and Elle Fanning is a sweet foil as the innocent human girl to Jolie's dark faerie. The film boasts some wonderful special effects; the world is magical.
All is not perfect though; the other acting jobs look dull next to the stars and the movie seems like it doesn't know whether to it wants to try to be overly dark (for a Disney flick) or overly light-hearted. I also have a personal opinion that the writers should not have "redeemed" the villain, as I would have loved to see Jolie play an unflinchingly sinister character all the way through instead.
