Review of Maleficent (2014) by David P — 03 Jun 2015
It deviates so far from the classic Sleeping Beauty that it should be its own tale and not a boring rip-off. Yes, Angelina Jolie shined as the title character and the special effects were impressive, but I can't look past the fact that instead of showing the villainous side of Sleeping Beauty, they change much of it and want to pass it off as the "untold story of the classic".
It's pretty darn violent for a PG rating and gives off many different tones, I didn't know how I should feel at the end, even though the movie told me to feel good I just couldn't. My rating wouldn't be so low if it tried to be its own thing, but the fact that it's changing a classic is something I can't get past.
