Review of Malcolm X (1992) by Nagvendra S — 05 Dec 2010
Denzel washington got the role of a lifetime when Spike Lee cast him to star in the biographical film about Malcolm X, one of the most extreme, influencial and controvercial civil rights activists. The result is an informative and insightful look into the crucial years of racial liberation in America.
Lee uses cinematography and music to give the film a clear artistic direction; many scenes are extremely powerful with a sence of sharpened reality. The film has a slight âhero worshipâ? -angle to it, but it's not too apparent and doesn't go too far.
There are different sides presented and the story doesn't feel simplified. The Malcolm X of this movie is a deep character inhabited by contradiction, not a shallow icon.
