Review of Malcolm X (1992) by Pavan S — 18 Mar 2008
First of all, if you're interested in Malcolm X do yourself a favor and read the autobiography by Alex Haley. While this movie does an admirable job it can't compare to the power and emotion that is found in Alex Haley's must read.
With that in mind, this is a movie that has its moments. When it's going right Spike Lee is able to reverberate the exact spirit of the moment. The last 20 minutes is perfect. The problem lies in that this man's life was so complicated, so diverse that to try and summarize it in 3 hours is an impossible task.
For that reason, read the book. Read the book. Read the book. It won't disappoint.
