Review of Malcolm X (1992) by Steve C — 01 Jun 2008
One of Spike Lee's best films is this biopic drama that's engrossing, serious, funny, flashy, religious, and ultimately controversial. It is a bit long and preachy at times, but it's still one heck of a film.
The movie holds a career best performance by Denzel Washington as Malcolm X. The movie is also held together by some sharp direction by Spike Lee, as well as an onfire script that shoots good dialogue and a highly insightful look into Malcolm's life.
In all, I give this film a good recommendation. It's a very good biopic that, whether you agree with its humanistic ideals or not, will entertain you.
