Review of Malcolm X (1992) by Deadly Night S — 16 Mar 2009
Spike Lee decides that if Oliver Stone can rewrite history to suit his needs so can he. Sprawling biopic is worth watching as Washington does capture a lot of what made Malcom X such a dynamic figure in the history of the American civil rights movement but its still not entirely historically accurate.
Spike directed this film during the turbulant period that followed the Rodney King beating and it was released the year of the LA Riots; it would be interesting to watch the movie again in 2009.
