Review of Malcolm X (1992) by Brandon H — 05 Feb 2011
It doesn't have the impact it had on me when I was a kid, but it still works. The second half is directed with a little more patience and care than the first half, it feels like. The first half feels flimsy at times, staged almost.
But Denzel keeps it afloat in what is far and away his best acting job. It's a little long, sure, and some of the dance scenes are a bit ridiculous, and there's often too much music overlay. Overall though I can't complain. I really appreciate how the second half unfolds, and how Denzel is able to transform his character so smoothly from punk to professor.
