Review of Malcolm X (1992) by Matt M — 07 Jun 2013
In bringing the life of African American leader Malcolm X to the screen, Spike Lee is not afraid to be brutally sincere, daring and even uncomfortable. Filmed with Lee's usual great visual flair, and supported by a powerhouse performance from Denzel Washington, its only fault lies in its director's usual over indulgence which clearly shows in eccentric finale, Spike Lee gives the figure of Malcolm X a glorifying portrait, making him look like one of the most important and a times misunderstood icons of the 20th century.
