Review of Major Dundee (1965) by Private U — 20 Dec 2007
Major Dundee is maybe more revealing of Peckinpah's idea of a manly hero. All of his heroes are flawed. Usually they're booze hounds and, although they're usually chasing girls, they're pretty distant from them as well.
All in all, this film was hacked to pieces by the studio. But, the characters are why I watch Peckinpah. They're larger than life and stand out starkly in comparison to our dull, mundane, and artificial heroes of contemporary cinema.
