Review of Magnum Force (1973) by Kevin D — 17 Dec 2010
This is a really cool, yet flawed movie. Eastwood is great once again as "Dirty" Harry Calahan and more depth is added to his character, since he does believe in justice to criminals, which contrasts with his belief in the first film. The shootouts and car chases are all well shot and all intense.
However, the movie was over 2 hours long when a better movie could have been made had 20 minutes been cut out of the movie. As a result of the 2 hour length, the story moves along slowly and is at times boring. At times the story loses its focus with the mixture of daily police business and the investigation in the main case. However, you'll probably forget about these problems once the final half hour rolls around and the twists are revealed and the action starts heating up. This is a good movie that could have been much better.
