Some might call Paul Thomas Anderson this generation's Robert Altman because most of his films feature sweeping ensemble casts that interact with each other through intersected story arcs. But Anderson makes his own name for himself with "Magnolia," a beautiful mosaic with mesmerizing performances from Tom Cruise, Julianne Moore, John C.
Reilly, and especially William H. Macy. Although long and often weird, viewers will chew up every minute of this three-hour journey through coincidences and random chance.
