Magnolia is a brilliant movie that goes in depth with its massive amount of well thought out characters. It can at times be exhausting, but for the most part it's a great experience. I don't think it's as good as Boogie Nights, but it's definitely worth watching.
Very occasionally it can be cheesy, but only very occasionally. Wonderful performances, great direction, this movie lives on the ambition behind it. Paul Thomas Anderson has taken all of these moments from his life and not blown them out of proportion but made them as powerful as they were for him in real life on screen.
It's brutally honest, nothing is diluted down. It can be sad, happy, dreadful, hopeful, fantastic. John C. Reilly and Melora Walters' characters' relationship is beautiful, the diamond in the rough of the conflicts of Magnolia.
In a strange way, it comes together in the end because it doesn't come together. It's a mess of brilliance, the beautiful vomit of Paul Thomas Anderson's life, arranged in such a particular and wonderful way.
