Review of Magicians (2000) by Serena H — 29 May 2008
Not really a contender for the best British comedy. With the two leads of Mitchell and Webb, I thought it be better, but they were just acting in this film and it would seem didnâ??t have any writing input. I was hoping for something much better. A too familiar story line and some overused pointless characters, that you seen all too often. Rather then laugher from myself, it just caused the edge of mouth to curve upwards. Half the time I couldnâ??t understand Peter Capaldi, who was a very sarcastic judge on the board of magicians. Darren Boyd is a familiar face from British comedy programs but seemed to be typecast as the idiotic manager.
Steve Edge played the most insipid character of the whole movie, he was just there to provideâ?¦â?¦ actually, I donâ??t why that character was in this film. I think he was there to use up some of the jokes that they couldnâ??t use for the main leads. Just some very chronic or crude banter about his sex life, that got really tiring.
