Review of Magic Mike XXL (2015) by Matt G — 03 Jul 2015
One of the best movies of the year so far. The themes are clear but not blatant. The subject of the film is "a woman's need to be cherished and what men can do about it." It has the least amount of dramatic stakes in a movie that I've seen in quite some time, but it's completely okay.
It's a bit like Entourage in a lot of ways, except the characters are only interested in one thing - how they can use themselves to bring pleasure to women. It's completely good-intentioned, hilarious, well-shot fun.
Honestly, with the themes being as they are, it's a shame more dudes won't see the movie, since it's kind of for them as well - preaching things like listening, making another person laugh, and offering decent ways to end jealous tension with a bro.
But it's easy to understand, considering it comes in the form of a male stripper movie. I'm unashamed to say I thought it was quite great.
