Review of Magic Mike XXL (2015) by Orlando O — 04 Jul 2015

Magic Mike XXL is one of those dumb fun films that brings back the characters for a second outing on the stage and getting the female target audience wild up. The original Magic Mike had a witty screenplay, a story about Mike (Channing Tatum) wanting to start his furniture business and more than just the stripping lifestyle. All while he brings in one of his buddies into the lifestyle that was played by Alex Pettyfer. The sequel, however, is lacking a story just for easy cash grabs since the main target audience is aimed for females and they will be fine with a movie as long as Channing Tatum and others just dance and strip tease. Not much effort is required in order for the movie to gather an audience. The movie is fun and has some laughs all cause of the same crew that was from the first movie like Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash, and Adam Rodriquez.

The plot was so thin and a shallow script by Reid Carolin that only had a movie set up for the cast members to have fun as they go on a road trip to Myrtle Beach for one last stripping performance. Enough is said about the plot. Basically, a movie that does have some sense of style and watching the characters having fun through there road trip while they go through the phase of discussing about doing more with their lives after there stripping lifestyle is over. There were some small things in the movie that also did not work like Mike (Channing Tatum) meeting Zoe (Amber Heard) which there friendship and chemistry felt awkward on screen throughout. The character development between the two could have been improved on screen.

Magic Mike XXL is a fair comedy drama film, which does have some fun with the characters, and the sex appeal with the male casts for the ladies and that is all the movie is aiming for.
