Review of Magic Mike XXL (2015) by Nathan G — 26 Apr 2016
The Good:
Compared to the much dour and dark theme of the first movie, this sequel is a lot more fun and is worthy sendoffs to these characters. Unsurprisingly, the tender heart to heart bro-talks between Mike and each members of the team are some of the standout moments. Jada Pinkett-Smith steals the movie with her rambacious performance of Rome. Matt Bomer and Donald Glover gets to belt out fantastic numbers! Fun cameos by Andie McDowell and Elizabeth Banks.
The Not-so-Good:
The first 15 minutes feels a little too slow and might throw people's attention away. Some parts, like the drag queen and the beach scenes don't feel necessary because they don't really serve any major contribution to the story. Some of the dance performance aren't too memorable. This movie could use a quick epilogue showing how the members are doing after their last gig.
