As exploitational as Magic Mike is, it's hard to deny that between all the cheesy stripping scenes lurks a sweet, down-to-earth character study. The story is nothing new - sort of a male Showgirls with a hint of Boogie Nights - but under Soderbergh's ever-reliable direction it really breathes.
Strong, sincere performances by the three leads bolster a sweet, earnest screenplay.
