I like the way it doesn't portray this lifestyle as fulfilling and the dangers of drugs and hard partying. Only Christ can can satisfy. But it's just boring. Slow and boring. And other than Mike, you don't really grow to care for anyone else in the movie.
Boogie Nights did a much better job exploring many of the same themes.
