Review:

I wasn't a big fan of this movie because the storyline wasn't that great and the actors, who usually put in good performances, we're extremely pompous. I should have known what to expect as soon as I saw Colin Firth in a period drama, but I wanted to know what Woody Allen was going to produce around this time period. Its about a frustrated magician whose approached by his friend to try and work out the truth behind a psychic whose been fooling a load of rich people. After a while, he also gets taken in by her amazing powers but he eventually starts to question how she knows so much information about people. I got bored with the storyline after a while and as soon as the love element was introduced, I totally switched my attentions to something else. It's obvious what's going to happen, right from the beginning of the whole conspiracy and I didn't find any of the characters that interesting. On the plus side, the chemistry between Firth and Stone was watchable but thats about it. Disappointing!

Round-Up:

Woody Allen's established name is obviously bringing in audiences, regardless of the quality of the material, but I personally wasn't that impressed with this film. I understood the whole concept of the different takes on magic, but I didn't find it that funny, even though the script was supposed to be witty. I very much doubt that this film will damage Firth's reputation because he always makes a few dud movies along with his good ones, like Gambit & St. Trinian's. Emma Stone has been in some great movies like the Help and the new Spiderman so I think that she should class this as a side project, even though it's made by the so-called amazing director Woody Allen. You've also got that annoying ragtime music throughout the movie, which is in most of Allen's films, and the corny ending didn't help matters.

Budget: $17million.

Worldwide Gross: $32million.

I recommend this movie to people who are into their Woody Allen movies about a magician whose trying to work out the truth behind a psychic who convinces rich people of her powers. 2/10.
